Jay K. Payleitner

Jay K. Payleitner

In the 1970s, Jay got a BFA in Theatre (a worthless sheet of paper) and sold photocopiers (a terrible, horrible job.)

In the 1980s, he wrote ads and TV commercials for eggs, canned vegetables, steaks, banks, grocery chains, the Chicago Symphony, Midway Airlines and Corona Beer.  (Including producing spots with Coach Mike Ditka and helping name Frito-Lay's "SunChips.")

In 1989, he left Michigan Avenue to do more important work ...

For radio, Jay currently produces four short features all heard daily on more than 500 stations, "Jesus Freaks Radio," "Today's Father," "Pro-Life Commentaries," and "The Phyllis Schlafly Report," and was writer/producer of "Josh McDowell Radio" for its 13-year run.  Each fall for Prison Fellowship, he produces an hour-long radio special for Chuck Colson's "Angel Tree" project.

In addition to authoring three books, Jay's talents include radio and video production,  voice over and audiobook recordings, comedy writing, jingle writing, and poster & t-shirt design.

Jay will never write a full-length novel, but he does have the gift of getting to the point and making a point.  Put him in front of a bunch of third graders or desperate dads, and lives may be changed.  Jay has been a baseball coach, wrestling coach, Awana director, youth volunteer, men's ministry emcee, parade marshall, trivia master, creativity trainer, and Santa Claus.  He has also written, acted in and directed quite a few church dramas, skits and musicals.

Jay's greatest passion is being a dad and he is affiliated with the National Center for Fathering and Great Dads, and served as Executive Director for the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative.  Jay and his wife, Rita, have five amazing kids and an occasional foster baby and live in St. Charles, Illinois.
